Hillside plant is located at "Richards Bay", 200 kilometres north of Durban, in South Africa. It has already been fitted out by Schneider Electric in the 1990's.

Hillside, an aluminium producer in the BHP Billiton group, has entrusted the Schneider Electric - Areva Consortium with the complete refurbishment of the regulation system for its aluminium electrolysis pots.

The order includes studies, supply, installation supervision and commissioning of the regulation system of the 576 pots in the plant. The equipment configuration and the ALPSYS® application software will be deployed.

Schneider Electric has been supplying process control systems for aluminium electrolysis from the 1980’s. In a Consortium with Areva since 1997, Schneider Electric is the exclusive integrator for the deployment of ALCAN/PECHINEY technology used to regulate aluminium electrolysis pots.

For the past 10 years, 80% of the new plants constructed all around the world have been equipped with ALPSYS®. This system participates, amongst other things, in reducing the frequency and duration of the Anode effect - one of the levers in reducting greenhouse gas emissions.
